Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

The Citizen Forester Program, run by Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program, employs citizen science to collect data on Oahu’s publicly owned trees. With the success of our pilot project in Kailua, we are now expanding our program to other areas of Oahu and need your help!

Our program trains, educates, & certifies community members to employ citizen science. We work to gain community support for our urban forests & raise awareness about the importance of trees in our cities. By volunteering with us, you gain experience working with State and City Forestry agencies, NGO’s, and professionals in forestry to gain important skills like species identification, tree health assessment, and forestry data navigation. Most importantly our Citizen Foresters make a difference in our community.

Getting started is easy:

  • Enroll online at SmartTreesPacific.org/CitizenForester

  • Attend training sessions to become a certified Citizen Forester, we are currently holding in-the-field training!

  • Sign up for tree mapping meet-ups around Oahu & get outside
