Saturday, May 24, 2014 to May 26, 2014 from 8:00am - 4:00pm
Haleakala National Park Summit District
The Friends of Haleakala National Park lead monthly 2-3 day service trips in one of Haleakala's historic wilderness cabins to restore native ecosystems of the Park. Volunteers typically pull weeds, and occasionally help repair cabins. You will get a chance to work in sometimes wet and windy conditions, which can clear to spectacular views of Haleakala crater. Participants must be able to hike 10-15 miles with a 20 lb pack and be in good physical shape. Participants bring: first day's water, sun and rain protection, work gloves, comfortable boots or walking shoes, sleeping bag, extra socks, breakfasts, lunches, dinner food contributions as coordinated by the leader, personal supplies, a flashlight, and warm clothing. Volunteers on service trips stay free in the cabins (except $15 for Service/Learning trips) which are equipped with bunks, firewood, dishes and cooking utensils.
