Duties include, but not limited to; invasive weed and plant removal, native planting, and restoration,
predator trapping and control work. Maintenance of fences, enclosures, building, islets, signs, roads and
trails in sanctuaries. Assist in habitat restoration, surveys, and inventory of wildlife. Assist in Wildlife
investigations and salvaging.

DUTIES:
• Invasive removal / native plant restoration – Removal of invasive weeds and plants that impact
native plant species in and around sanctuaries and wetlands. Assisting in restoring sections of
sanctuaries which may include ponds or wetland areas.
• Predator trapping – Assist staff with the placement of traps, snares, baiting, and dispatching
predators in sanctuaries. Predator removed include mongoose, rats, cats, and deer. Staff will
dispatch predators and members will assist with removal.
• Maintenance – Assist in removal of vegetation along boundary fence line, repairs to fence or
gates, sign maintenance or replacement. Maintenance of road and trails which include brushing
and removal of vegetation. Cleaning and maintenance of observation building and parking lot.
Assist in vegetation removal on nesting islets in sanctuaries.
• Survey and Inventory - Assist in monthly and semi-annual waterbird surveys. May assist in
monitoring movements of wildlife species in sanctuaries.
• Wildlife Investigations – May assist staff in conducting investigations of wildlife nuisance to
farmers or individuals.
• Salvage – Assist staff in salvaging injured or down wildlife in Maui County.
• Other Duties – Assist staff in compiling data for reports. May assist other wildlife technicians in
other wildlife programs.

Able to use simple hand tools, weed eater, ability to work comfortably with wildlife, communicate with
others, perform basic math computations, write clear and record data, basic computer skills, work in
extreme weather conditions (cold and hot).

January 7, 2019 - November 22, 2019 (11 months, full time)

Applicant Requirements:

1. Age - Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by the start date of the service term (due to AmeriCorps regulations).

2. Diploma - Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

3. Citizenship - Applicants must be one of the following: a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien (due to AmeriCorps regulations).

4. Criminal History Check - Applicants are subject to a criminal history check.

5. Housing/Transportation - Applicants must have their own personal housing and transportation arrangements on-island.
