Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $2,552-3,325/Mon.

DUTIES: Initiates, plans, develops and implements an environmental education program for the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), Natural Area Reserves (NAR) Program in Honolulu, Hawaii. Educates school groups, community members, and specialized groups on the purpose of the DOFAW programs, including, but not limited to, Forestry, Wildlife, Trails, Natural Area Reserves Program, Forest Health, and other natural resource management issues. Coordinates volunteer projects, educational activities, and presentations for schools and community programs. Develops outreach materials. Supports community and student interpretation, educator professional development, and educational program development. Provides assistance with the DOFAW Information and Education Management.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience working with conservation issues in Hawaii. One to three years (1-3) of experience working with outreach and education components of natural resource management and conservation oriented projects. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of the Hawaiian natural resources processes and cultural history in Hawaii. Working knowledge of word processing and desktop publishing software including PowerPoint, InDesign, and Excel. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Able to initiate, plan, coordinate, and implement environmental education program. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to hike up to six (6) miles in remote areas and rugged terrain. Able to backpack and lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawaii's and/or business entity's policies and procedures. Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with the DOFAW and NAR Program in general, and the policy and organizational contexts within which they are managed. Familiarity with federally listed plants, animals, and natural resource management issues on the Island of Oahu. Specialized experience in working with government land based agencies and community groups. Specialized experience working independently to accomplish a major project. Experience in working on resource conservation projects in Hawaii. Ability to efficiently operate Microsoft Word, website, and pamphlet design software.
