Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

This Full-time, professional-level position will be working as an integral member of a team which is responsible for increasing the health and resilience of native-species populations in Limahuli Preserve via in situ restoration and ex situ conservation.

This position has a strong focus on the plant-conservation projects in Limahuli Preserve including managing conservation collections of rare species, monitoring of rare-plant populations, forest restoration, habitat protection, collection of propagation material, and invasive species control.

Other duties include may leading work crews, controlling pests and invasive species, keeping records, writing reports, maintaining nursery stock, participating in helicopter operations, and assisting in other team projects as scheduled by the Preserve Operations Manager. This position requires remote field work including inclement weather, rugged terrain, and frequent week-long trips into Upper Limahuli Preserve.

Applicant must have at least a bachelor’s degree in botany, biology, natural resources management, or a related field; plus at least two years of hands-on experience; or a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in conservation and ecological restoration in Hawai`i, and knowledge of rare-plant identification.
