The Pollinator Conservation & Education Internship is available through Kupu’s Conservation Leadership Development Program (CLDP), and will work full-time, June 12th through August 4th, Full-time, Monday through Friday. Hours TBD.

The Pollinator Conservation and Education Intern will support pollinator conservation efforts on Malama Kaua`i’s 8-acre Community Farm in Kalihiwai, including the development of demonstration pollinator gardens and the creation/delivery of community education on pollinators to build community awareness.

YOU WILL BE:

  • Completing extensive readings and research on pollinators and host plants in Hawai`i, and best practices in supporting pollinator conservation (including bees, butterflies, birds, beetles, flies, etc.)
  • Supporting the planning and execution of a Pollinator Forest installation project in the Youth Garden, helping to lead Summer Ag Interns in the week-long installation process
  • Designing and installing a second, smaller Pollinator Garden near farm honeybee hives, including volunteer recruitment and management of the public
  • Developing and delivering short educational workshops on pollinators to Ag Interns and the public during install events (ex. pollinator conservation, pollinator gardening 101, making carpenter bee homes, butterfly gardens)

YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • A sincere interest in pollinator conservation and be at least 17 by June 12th
  • Aloha-filled, positive, & can-do attitude
  • Comfort with GoogleDocs, public speaking, and leading groups
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This AmeriCorps member position is an 8-week, full-time community service opportunity through the Corporation for National & Community Service and Kupu’s Conservation Leadership Development Program (CLDP). You must be at least 17 by June 12th to serve. Program Benefits Include:

– Small Subsistence Living Allowance (Approx. $375 bi-weekly, subject to taxes)
– A $1,222 Education Award (similar to a scholarship) towards higher education

AmeriCorps member receive a small subsistence allowance and should evaluate their financial situation to ensure that they are able to complete the full 2-month term. Housing is NOT provided in this program. The CNCS provides the living allowance to cover the cost of food, housing, and other basic necessities during service. You may attend school or have another part-time job during service, but will be expected to work on a full-time basis in this program.
