This year’s theme for National Park Week is “We’re on a Mission,” and part of the mission for Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is conserving our endemic plant and animal species. One of those species, the ‘ōhi‘a tree, is the most important tree in Hawai‘i and unfortunately it’s seriously threatened by an introduced fungus, Ceratocystis, or Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death, discovered in 2014.
