Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

The Wildlife Society (TWS) Hawaii Chapter (https://hawaii.tws-west.org/) is working with Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) to provide an opportunity to TWS Hawaii members and friends to enjoy and take part in conservation at Kaena Point.

When? 10am to 2pm on Sunday, March 12, 2023

What? Wildlife viewing (including albatross) and conservation clean-up.

Description: Starting at the Mokuleia side parking lot, participants will hike about 2 miles out to the fenced-in Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve (KPNAR). Participants will be encouraged to pick up garbage and marine debris along the way. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. We will be leaving the bagged and collected garbage at designated collection points and outside the Natural Area Reserve.

Once inside the predator-proof fence, we will do some weeding and observe Kaena's wildlife. We will also hear from DOFAW staff about KPNAR, it's history, and what kinds of conservation work is being done today.

The trip is limited to the first 15 participants.

A donation of $5 for TWS members or $15 for non-TWS members is encouraged.  This will help us defray the cost of this trip and help us make future trips like this possible. Interested in joining the TWS Hawaii Chapter? Find out more here: https://hawaii.tws-west.org/membership/
